ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I am interested in questions of human-animal intimacy; questions about compassion and how to move in the direction of clarity; questions of tenderness; questions of sitting with the unknown/unknowable.

I am an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Santa Cruz, CA. My works explore themes of intimacy and coexistence with other human and animal beings. I am particularly inspired by my devotion to Yoga, which I have been studying, practicing, and teaching since the 1990s. These practices give me structure for contemplation, growth, healing, service, and inquiry. I received my undergraduate degree in Painting and Printmaking from Stanford University in 1995. During my time in college, I also spent a year overseas at the Scuola di Lorenzo De Medici in Florence, Italy where I met my beloved mentors Rose Shakinovsky and Claire Gavronsky (known collectively as Rosenclaire). Since I first met them in 1994, I have completed many artists residencies and course with them, both in Italy and the United States.
